GIKI won Best Engineering Design Award at NERC 2013

National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Careers program and Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) organizes National Engineering Robotics Contest (NERC) every year since 2005. Hundreds of robots from different universities participate in this competition. Participation in this event is a source of inspiration for the students which provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and share ideas of robot design and manufacturing. This year, NERC held on 27-29 June 2013 at College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (EME) NUST in which a team of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engg. Sciences & Technology (GIKI) undergraduate students won the “Best Engineering Design Award”. Winning group members include Mr. Ali Yousuf (Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering), Mr. Ansab Shohab (Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering), Mr. Malik Abbas (Faculty of Electronic Engineering), Mr. Talha Khan (Faculty of Electronic Engineering), Mr. Basim Jamil (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and Mr. Hassan Zahoor Khan (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering). This award is the result of students and their instructors hard work. Workshops were conducted by GIKI faculty members (Mr. Nayyer Abbas Zaidi & Mr. Memoon Sajid) for the participating students. Mechanical body of robot was prepared by the students at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIKI. Faculty of Electronic Engineering purchases license of Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator

Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) is a Finite Element Method (FEM) based solver for electromagnetic structures. It is one of the best commercially available tools used for designing of antennas, waveguides and RF circuit elements including filters, transmission lines etc.  It is also widely used to design and analyze novel electromagnetic structures (such as metamaterials, absorbers, plasmonic surfaces etc.), and is therefore widely used for research in microwaves / RF / electromagnetics.  Due to the importance of HFSS, Faculty of Electronic Engineering (FEE) has purchased licenses of HFSS v14. Dr. Adnan Noor (Assistant Professor FEE) is the concerned person of GIKI in this matter.   ...
