FME receives 7.8 Million R&D Grant from Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for MHPPs


FME has been awarded a grant of PKR 7.8 Million by the Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST), Ministry of ST&IT, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project involves installation of two indigenously designed Mini Micro Hydro Power Plants (MHPPs) in the districts of Mardan and Swabi. This project will be carried out under the supervision of panel of experts from the GIK Institute Topi, who have been involved in the research and development of micro hydro turbines and related technologies. The team would carry out preliminary design review, design improvements, conduct simulations for performance predictions and closely interact with the design, manufacturing and commissioning teams at various stages of the project ensuring that right engineering practices are followed. Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute signs MoU with ICMA Pakistan


A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) was signed between the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on 18th December 2015 at Islamabad. Mr. Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Pro-Rector (A&F), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science & Technology and Mr. Kashif Mateen Ansari, President, Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective Institutes. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Acting Director North Region, ICMA Pakistan and Dr. Muhammad Sabir, Head Department of Management Sciences, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute. Under this MoU, declared as an RDI Agreement, the Research and Publications (R&P) Committee of ICMAP and the Office of Research, Innovation and Collaboration (ORIC) of GIKI intend to collaborate for a range of RDI efforts. Thus, through this agreement, GIKI and ICMAP have become research partners and will collaborate through joint efforts in areas of mutual interests. The agreement also covers exchange of information, scholastic and development material, and sharing and advancing of ideas. In addition, the agreement covers mutually decided objectives, assignments, tasks, studies, surveys, feedback and other works related to research, development, innovation and publications within the country and abroad on non-financial terms under “Research Collaborations”. However, mutually decided objectives, assignments, tasks, studies, surveys, feedback and other works related to research, development, innovation and publications within the country and abroad on financial terms shall be called “Joint Projects”.      ...

Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mr Asad Qaisar inaugurates the NFRC Laboratory at FME


Mr Asad Qaisar, Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly inaugurated the refurbished Natural Fluids Refrigeration Centre (NFRC) laboratory in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology. Established in Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the NFRC laboratory was partially financed by Isotherm Inc and its total cost was about half million dollars. Mr Jehangir Bashar, Rector of GIK Institute, Prof Dr Javed A. Chattha, Pro-Rector Academic       Dr Zahid Ayub, President of Isotherm Inc., USA, Dr S. M. Ahmad, Dean FME, Dr Haider Ali, Parliamentary Secretary for anti-corruption, MPA Muhammad Shiraz Khan, Provincial Secretary for Higher Education, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman and Additional Secretary Dr Khalid Khan also graced the inaugural ceremony. GIK Institute in collaboration with Isotherm Inc., USA has established the NFRC to provide refrigeration solutions on a global scale. Dr Zahid Ayub said that the Isotherm Inc. established global partnership with leading institutions such as Industrial Refrigeration Consortium at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA and Thermal Center (IMST) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.  Mr Asad Qaisar said that the students who acquired contemporary engineering education in GIK Institute have played a dominant role in development of the country in numerous fields. He lauded the modern techniques adopted by GIK Institute academia to impart quality education to youth. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government being fully aware of GIK Institute contribution, he assured that provincial government will provide adequate help in imparting contemporary engineering education to the country youth.  The Rector acknowledged and thanked Mr Qasiar for his Government’s on-going support to GIK Institute.  ...
