- LAN
The GIK Institute has its own Local Area Network (LAN) connecting all the faculties and student hostels. It is one of the largest network in Pakistan. The LAN is connected to the internet through a high speed fiber optic line providing web surfing, chat and email services to all students and faculty members.
- Library
A stately three storey building, set against the background of brooding and austere hills of Tarbela, houses the Central Library of the Institute. Its interior design, decor, and furniture create an atmosphere of an intellectual sanctuary wherein the students and faculty can concentrate on their studies. It operates in two shifts and remains open till late in night seven days a week. It has textbooks, reference works, printed as well as online journals to meet the needs of students and faculties. To share resources through inter-library loan and exchange of databases, it is electronically linked to all prominent libraries of the country. It also provides reprographic services.
The GIK Institute's digital library provides access to resources of HEC that include databases of journal articles, electronic journals and reference databases to support the faculty and students community of the Institute. The digital resources include about 15000 electronic journals, e-books, audio/video materials, IEEE databases on DVDs and other reference databases. The students and faculty members at the institute can easily access all the resources on their desks through http://www.digitallibrary.edu.pk/giki.html, which provides online acces to IEEE, Science-Direct and other valuable resources.
- Local mIRC
A local version of the popular chat software mIRC has been implemented in GIKI. It is more like a culture than a mere chat software in GIKI. All important informal news and announcements are made on mIRC. Channels of various student societies, batches, faculties, general knowledge, news and TV series/movies have been made on IRC and connect a student sitting in his room to the whole campus.
- Newspapers
All leading Urdu and English language newspapers are supplied to the hostels, faculties and the library. The library is also provided with popular technical and non-technical magazines and digests.
- PC Lab
A PC lab is provided in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences with more than eighty pentium IV PCs with high speed internet access. It is also provided with a printer, which the students can use free of charge. The students can use this lab from 8:00 am till 10:00 pm except during lab timings.
- Phones
Pay phones are located outside every hostel and the cafe. Each hostel is also provided with two independent telephone lines with attendants for contact with parents/relatives from 5:00 pm to 8:00 am daily. A PCO is also available at the shopping block. Apart from these, personal mobile phones can also be used by the students. Signals from all the national network providers are received in GIKI.
- TV Cable
GIKI has its own satellite tv/dish tv receivers. All popular channels are available on the TV in the common rooms of the hostels. A channel can also be requested if not available.
