Second Planning and Scheduling Meeting on the Development of Computational Mechanics Infrastructure and Human Resources for Advancing Engineering Design Practices in Pakistani Industry

Funded under the Pakistan-US Science and Technology Cooperative Program for 2005

Dates: July 4 & 5, 2006

Here are the general topics that I would like to cover in this meeting. However, the sequence can be shuffled as well as the allocated time can be changed to accommodate any requirements. Please let me know in advance if any changes are being done. Otherwise I will like to stick with this schedule. Thanks.

Day 1: Tuesday July 4, 2006

  • Arrive at GIK 9:30 am
  • Technical Seminar 11-12:30 pm (Prof. A. Masud)

A New Class of Multiscale Finite Element Methods: Application to Fluid and Solid Mechanics By Professor Arif Masud University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

  • Meeting with the GIK faculty and  Finalizing the sequence of Course  Offering for the Fall and Spring  Semesters    2:00-3:30 pm
  • Meeting with the potential graduate  students for the MS and the PhD Research Program.  (I will go over their academic records before meeting them one on one basis) 3:30-5:00 pm (15 minutes/student)

Ideally, the faculty in charge will also be present along with Dr. Abid. 

  • Selection of the MS research topics and potential PhD research topics 5:00-6:00 pm

Day 2: Wednesday July 5, 2006

  • Discussion with Dr. Abid on the  First Graduate Course on FEA being  taught at UIC.    8:00-9:00 am
  • Discussion with GIK faculty involved in the research about the open source codes from UC Berkeley and UI Urbana-Champaign. 9:00-12:00 noon
  • General discussion    2:00-5:00 pm
