Biography


Engr. Dr. Muhammad Waqas own his BSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering & Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan in (2009), MSc degree in Electrical (Communication) Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan in (2014) and a PhD in Information and Communication Engineering from the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China (2019). Dr. Muhammad Waqas Ph.D. research focuses on the physical layer security in wireless communication and fog computing. Besides, his research included investigating the impact of mobility in wireless communication. His Ph.D. work could help in the authentication, authorization, confidential information, and mobility factors among legitimate users in 5G and beyond wireless communication. During his Ph.D., he developed and strengthened several technical skills such as coalition game theory, social phenomena, reinforcement learning, and mobile homophiles. He is always seeking to a demonstrable ongoing commitment to professional enhancement, scholarship and research, and project work. He is also committed to exploring external funding opportunities, awards or grants or possible commercial opportunities.
 
On 3rd July 2019, He has completed his Ph.D. studies with grade-A from world top-ranked (17th) university according to QS and Times ranking. He has published more than a dozen high-quality research papers, almost all in Q1 ranked. With a Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering, he has a comprehensive understanding of specific 5G wireless networks and its applications such as physical layer security, fog computing, mobile edge computing, Internet of Things, a device to device communication, and mobility investigation in a wireless communication network. He has also experienced in learning techniques and applying new technologies as appropriate. Throughout his Ph.D. studies, he has collaborated with high profile researchers such as, Prof. Sheng Chen (University of Southampton, UK), Prof. Zhu Han (University Houston, USA), Prof. Sasu Tarakoma & Dr. Aaron Di Ying (University of Helsinki, Finland), Prof. Nicola Marchetti (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland), Dr Muhammad Majid Butt (Nokia Bell Lab, France), Prof. Jorg Ott & Micheal Huss (Technical University of Munich, Germany), which resulted in 11 peer-reviewed publications. Besides Ph.D. research scholar at Tsinghua University, Beijing, he was also visiting research assistant (2016-2019) in the Beijing University of Technology, Beijing under the supervision of Dr. Tu Shanshan, where he was also writing scientific papers, co-supervising undergraduate and graduate students and somehow helping Dr. Tu ongoing projects. He is also preparing more papers in academia on the novel techniques to tackle security threats in wireless communication and currently planning to write a book chapter for an upcoming book on security in UAVs.
 
He has experience in teaching, assessment, and student support at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an engineering-related subject area. He has previous teaching experience for almost six years at the Sarhad university of science and information technology, Peshawar, Pakistan (2011 - 2015). He taught different courses to undergraduate and graduate-level such as Mobile communication, Antenna design and analysis, Electromagnetic field theory, Electrical circuits, Electronics, Propagation of Wireless communication, Fibre optics communication and Network security. He has also supervised three undergraduate and one master’s student and they are successfully defended their B.Sc. and M.Sc. projects during his career at Sarhad University of science and information technology. Moreover, due to his teaching abilities, he was also selected as visiting lecturer at Preston University, Peshawar from 2010 to 2015. At Preston university, he was teaching wireless communication, Communication Systems, and Microwave engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) since 2015 and obtained his teaching qualification through the higher education commission Pakistan. He is also a member of IEEE since 2018.
