Turkish Professor Dr. Ismail Boztosun visits Computational Physics Modelling & Simulation (CPMS) Group, FES, GIK Institute


Prof. Dr. Ismail Boztosun from Akdeniz University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics, Antalya, Turkey visited Computational Physics Modeling & Simulation (CPMS) group from 6th November – 8th November 2015. Activities of Prof. Dr. Ismail Boztosun during his stay  Discussion with graduate students on research projects. Present a special seminar for students on “Contribution of Akdeniz University to Experimental Nuclear Physics Studies in Turkey:       Photonuclear & Photo fission reactions”. Visited the campus of with the students of CPMS group. Prof. Ismail discussed possibility of visits/training of CPMS group students to Akdeniz University up to a maximum period of one year with full funding. GIK Institute Signs MoU with University of Texas at Arlington, USA


The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIK Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, UTA – University of Texas at Arlington, USA to promote student and faculty exchange between the partner institutions. The purposes of the cooperation between UTA and GIK Institute are as follows: to promote interest in the teaching and research activities of the respective institutions, and to deepen the understanding of the economic, cultural and social issues environment of the respective institutions. To achieve these goals, UTA and GIK Institute agreed to: promote institutional exchanges by inviting faculty and staff of the partner institutions to participate in a variety of teaching and/or research activities and professional development; receive qualified undergraduate and graduate students of the partner institution for periods of study and/or research; organize symposia, conferences, short courses and meetings on research issues; carry out joint research and continuing education programs. ...

FCSE Students Spent Summer at Infosys, India


Murva Hussain, Shahbaz Ali Shueb, Hussain Ali Akbar and Aneeb Khawar; 4 students from Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering successfully carried out summer internship at Infosys InStep Global Internship Program 2015 in Bangalore, India. The students were selected through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by Infosys. These were the only students from Pakistan selected for InStep 2015. Infosys is the fifteenth largest IT company in the world, with clients in more than 30 countries, an employee workforce close to 160,000 and revenue of US$ 8.25 billion in FY14 alone. Infosys is also considered to be the pioneer behind India’s booming IT sector. InStep – the flagship global internship program of Infosys – attracts talent from top academic institutions around the world. The program attracts a mix of students from across disciplines like management, technology, and liberal arts. In the midst of this multicultural environment, the students work on different real-time projects for the company, and thus get valuable professional experience in one of the world’s leading technology companies. Rector GIK Institute expressed immense gratitude to Infosys for giving this wonderful opportunity to those 4 students; saying that the experience at Infosys would help the students gain professional experience by working alongside, and interacting with, their Indian colleagues at the firm’s world class IT facilities. He hoped that the opportunity would also help develop greater mutual understanding between the two countries. Honorable Rector also expressed his particular appreciation of Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, the Founder of Infosys, for making the partnership happened and increasing the number of internships from two to four this year for GIK students to participate in the InStep Global Internship Program at Infosys. According to Shahbaz Ali, "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it was an honor for us to represent our institute and also our country in such a reputed multi-national company.  I am really thankful to both GIK Institute and the Instep Team at Infosys for providing us with such an opportunity." GIK Institute Signs MoU with Sakarya University, Turkey


The GIK Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sakarya University, Turkey on September 08, 2015 to promote student and faculty exchange between the partner institutions under the Mevlana Exchange Programme Protocol. Sakarya University has a student enrollment of around 90,000 and faculty around 2,000. The university is rated amongst the top Turkish universities and Turkey’s 4th best Technocity.   The MoU and Mevlana Exchange Programme Protocol was the result of recent visits of Dean FES, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi to Turkey and Sakarya University in order to foster international research linkages between the two universities. The highly competitive Mevlana Exchange Programme Protocol was awarded to GIK Institute as a result of meeting of Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi with the Governor Karabuk, Mr. Izzettin Kucuck, Rector Karabük University, Prof. Dr. Burhanettin UYSAL and Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Uluer, which paved path to establishing research linkages between the two countries. The MoU between GIK Institute and Sakarya University was signed by Prof. Dr. Muzaffer ELMAS, Rector of Sakarya University and Engr. GIKI’s Faculty received Ph.D. Mobility Scholarship Funded by the European Union as part of the Erasmus Mundus Programme


M. Mahmood Ali received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from University College of Engineering and Technology (UCET), The Islamia University of Bahawaplur; and Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi, PAKISTAN, in 2009 and 2012, respectively. He started his career as Research Associate (Lecturer) at GIK Institute in Feb, 2012 and afterwards in year 2013, he got study leave for Ph.D. studies. He is currently The Bright Sparks Ph.D. Fellow under the supervision of Prof. Ulung Dr. Harith Bin Ahmad, Director, Photonics Research Centre (PRC), University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA (prc.um.edu.my). His research interests include optical fiber sensors and lasers with applications, advanced digital signal and image processing, and microwave engineering. He has published more than ten publications in well-known ISI indexed journals of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and OSA (Optical Society of America) and also presented in several conferences, colloquiums and seminars. He has received Ph.D. mobility scholarship from the INTACT project for 12 months, funded by the European Union as part of the Erasmus Mundus programme to pursue his research at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), under the supervision of Prof. Elfed Lewis, Director, Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre (OFSRC), University of Limerick, IRELAND (www.ofsrc.ul.ie).He is the Graduate Student Member IEEE and also the Member of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) Pakistan.  ...

Chairman HEC Inaugurates the Advance Photovoltaics Research Lab at GIK


Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed on Saturday August 22, 2015 at the GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology inaugurated the four state of the art Advance Photovoltaics Research Laboratories including: DYE-SENSITIZED SOLAR CELL FABRICATION  LABORATORY SOLAR CELL IV & CV CHARACERIZATION LABORATORY SOLAR CELL TRANSIENT PHOTOVOLTAGE AND PHOTOCURRENT  CHARACTERIZATION LABORATORY LABORATORY FOR THE DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF MOLECULAR SYSTEMS FOR EFFICIENT SOLAR ENERGY HARVESTING The ceremony was graced by the Engr. Shams ul Mulk (President, SOPREST, HI), Mr. Shakil Durrani (Executive Director, SOPREST) and Engr. Four GIK students joined Infosys InStep Global Internship Program in Bangalore, India
