GIKI won Best Engineering Design Award at NERC 2013

National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Careers program and Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) organizes National Engineering Robotics Contest (NERC) every year since 2005. Hundreds of robots from different universities participate in this competition. Participation in this event is a source of inspiration for the students which provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and share ideas of robot design and manufacturing. This year, NERC held on 27-29 June 2013 at College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (EME) NUST in which a team of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engg. Sciences & Technology (GIKI) undergraduate students won the “Best Engineering Design Award”. Winning group members include Mr. Ali Yousuf (Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering), Mr. Ansab Shohab (Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering), Mr. Malik Abbas (Faculty of Electronic Engineering), Mr. Talha Khan (Faculty of Electronic Engineering), Mr. Basim Jamil (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and Mr. Hassan Zahoor Khan (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering). This award is the result of students and their instructors hard work. Workshops were conducted by GIKI faculty members (Mr. Nayyer Abbas Zaidi & Mr. Memoon Sajid) for the participating students. Mechanical body of robot was prepared by the students at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIKI. Mr. Rameez Hayat (Research Associate, Faculty of Electronic Engineering GIKI) coordinated all the activities related to NERC 2013 in GIKI. ...

GIK Institute wins grant under the Pakistan-US Science and Technology Cooperative Programme Phase V

The GIK Institute has won a research project entitled "New Approaches for Lower Cost, Longer Stability, and Higher Efficiency of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs)” under the ‘Pakistan-US Science and Technology Cooperative Programme’, according to the news posted on July 01, 2013 at http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/dsc/pakistan/PGA_083755 This is one of the only 10 projects selected from among the 268 applications submitted. This proposal was jointly submitted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hassan Sayyad, Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FES), and Prof. Dr.  Qiquan Qiao, South Dakota State University (SDSU), USA. This collaborative project will serve as a platform for producing scientists and engineers trained in the design and fabrication of cost effective next generation DSSCs and will facilitate Pakistan’s efforts to address its critical energy needs in a sustainable manner. Upon the successful completion of this project, the program will be elevated to a self-sustaining center of DSSC research at the GIKI that will liaise with industry in developing low cost stand-alone solar cell modules and related products of commercial importance. ...
