Pakistan Post Commemorates Silver Jubilee of GIK Institute


Pakistan Post has commemorated Silver Jubilee Year (1993-2018) of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology by issuing a Commemorative Stamp of Rs.8 denomination on 24th December, 2018 on approval of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.  First Day of Issue Cover (FDC) and a Leaflet were also issued on the same day. FDC contains special cancellation mark of the date of issue on it. The Leaflet explains the Genesis, Aims and Objective of the Institute, and the constitution of the Board of Governors consisting of eminent Scientists, Scholars, Engineers and functionaries of the Government. Issue of Commemorative Postage stamp is a recognition of the role which the Institute plays in producing professionals with a strong base of engineering education and research capable of upgrading existing technological activities in the country. The Commemorative Stamp, FDC and Leaflet are available for sale at all the GPOs and important Post Offices of the country from the same date. ...

GIK-HAINA Completes Forth Batch Training


            GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Pakistan and Huawei Technologies Pakistan Pvt. Ltd signed an MoU to work together to develop a cooperative working relationship and bridge the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge and skills gap in 2017. As a results of this MoU, Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) was established at GIK in September 2017, for which Huawei provided the lab equipment, software, course authorization, access to learning resources and training to instructors, while GIK contributed fully furnished classroom and lab with state-of-the-art workstations, qualified instructors, administrative support, and access to Internet, digital library and all other core facilities. Through the HAINA program, both GIK and Huawei are cooperating to support the regional ICT education, share knowledge, and build a better ICT talent eco-system. The collaboration is offering the students of GIK a greater opportunity to learn the latest industrial trends and technologies and become Huawei certified in support of their subsequent careers in the ICT industry. GIK-HAINA is currently providing trainings at the associate level in the Routing and Switching module (HCNA – R&S). The training of the Fourth Batch of the HAINA Program started on 1st October, 2018 and has completed 28th November, 2018. A total of 18 students were trained in the Forth Batch. The contents covered in the training include, but are not limited to:  Basic Network: Networks Protocol Stack Models, Transmission Medium, Network Devices. OSI layers and interaction between them. Design IP address schemes using Fixed Length Subnet Mask (FLSM) and Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM). Switching: Spanning Tree Protocol, VLans, Link Aggregation, GVRP etc. Routing: Static Routing Protocol, Dynamic Routing Protocols etc. Setting up a site-to-site VPN. Applications are invited from the eligible and deserving students of the Institute for the following two posts as Incharge GIKafe for on-campus assignments, on part time basis:   I.    Incharge GIKafe   Skills Required   Group of two students. Those having some experience will be preferred. Responsible for overall management of GIKafe. Ability to supervise and evaluate work performance of staff. To ensure daily sales proceeds and purchase record is properly maintained. To ensure and supervise maintenance, and To ensure that quality meals are served. A Member of TeleCoN joins L2TI, University of Paris 13, France


The Telecommunications and Networking (TeleCoN) Research Lab, GIK Institute, has strong collaboration with Laboratory of Information Processing and Transmission (L2TI), University of Paris 13, France, in the areas of vehicular ad hoc and sensor networks. Recently, Dr. Saadi Boudjit of L2TI delivered a talk at TeleCoN Research Lab on multimedia WSN-based network of aerial drones for surveillance. It was then when Mr. Nouman Bashir, MS Student in FEE and Member of TeleCoN Research Group (2016–2018), developed interest in this area. After completing his MS degree, Mr. Bashir submitted a PhD proposal to L2TI for working on multi-hop routing in a network of aerial drones for road surveillance. On recommendation from TeleCoN, the proposal was accepted by L2TI and Mr. Bashir received an offer for a fully funded PhD with a monthly stipend of €2000. Mr. Nouman Bashir also had PhD offers from Imperial college London and University of New South Wales, Sydney, and he had earned the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarship. He could have joined any of these two universities under the PEEF scholarship but he decided to join L2TI. The Chinese professors and GIK Institute academia discuss further boosting collaboration


               Two representatives of Shenyang Aerospace University, China and academia of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology have discussed mutual collaboration,  and scholarship to GIK Institute students. The two visiting Chinese professors, Mr. Richard Chen, secretary-general of Liaoning Provincial Education Association for International Exchange and Mr. Pan Qibo and Mr. Kang Tong Tao visited GIK Institute. They held talks with Engr. Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK Institute, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Pro-Rector (Academics) and Mr. Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Pro-Rector (Administration & Finance), Deans and Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The Rector said that he, along with the Executive Director, SOPREST, had visited Shenyang Aerospace University last  August where the Rector and the President, Shenyang Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in joint research, exchange of students and faculty and other academic activities.  The visitors have offered 10 scholarships to GIK Institute students in Shenyang Aerospace University from the next academic year. Mr. Richard Chen explained that the scholarship would cover the students admission and tuition fee, traveling charges and accommodation. In the Faculty of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Ali and Prof. Dr. Javid Rabbani Khan, Head of Department of Chemical Engineering briefed the visitors in separate presentations about recent research projects, laboratories, faculty members, courses offered to the students, research achievements, future plans and various other academic activities. Similarly, in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. S. M. Ahmad also gave a detailed presentation and spoke about numerous curricular and co- curricular activities.  The Chinese delegation in a brief presentation showed that how Shenyang Aerospace University plays a role in manufacturing fighter aircraft.  They appreciated the role of the world-class faculty of GIK Institute who impart contemporary education to the students and agreed to continue talks with GIK Institute for mutual collaboration.   ...

GIK Incubator conducts training sessions on company incorporation with SECP and IBM


                                   The Shed GIK Incubator organized two day training sessions at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, The Shed GIK Incubator has been established in collaboration with Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST) government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for the promotion of Entrepreneurship in the KP region, the training sessions are part of the awareness drive in this regard.   The training was conducted with the help of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Islamabad and International Business Machines (IBM), a multinational company.  The faculty and students from across the country institutions/universities, including Azad Kashmir participated in the training. Engr.Jehangir Bashar, Rector of GIK Institute thanked SECP and IBM for their support in conducting the trainings, enabling the educated youth to start their business and play their due role in strengthening the country’s economy. The SECP’s expert mentored and guided participants on the importance, procedures and benefits of incorporation. The participants were told about the establishment of new companies, registration process of corporation, corporate sector regulation, recent introduced reforms, taxation structure and paying taxes and investment, small companies, taking start from miniature resources and various other steps.   Syed Jamal Ahmad Zaidi, deputy registrar SECP said that incubation provides a perfect platform to the educated youth to use their capabilities in launching their companies, become successful businessmen and play due role in strengthening the country economy and their own financial position. The Session by IBM was focused on the cloud services. IBM Cloud is an open-standard, cloud platform for building, running, and managing applications.
