Obituary-Tribute to late Engr. Dr. Sajid Anwar

With a heavy heart, it is to share that GIK Institute lost one of its shining stars, Engr. Dr. Sajid Anwar, to cancer. Late Dr. Sajid Anwar was serving as an Assistant Professor in Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at GIK Institute since 2017. He was diagnosed with cancer on 6th August 2020 and left this world at the peak of his career on 2nd September 2020.‎ 

In the 285th meeting of Governing Council of GIK Institute (held on September 9, 2020), members expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of late Dr. Sajid Anwar. His services for the institute were eulogized and his death was termed as a great loss for the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering and the GIK Institute. Institute sent a resolution to members of the bereaved family to share moments of grief with them.

He was an educator second to none and a great source of motivation for his students and associates. Being an accomplished and developed educator, he would show a commendable vitality in assembling a situation in the class, where the students were always anxious to gain knowledge from him. Late Dr. Sajid Anwar had an important role in initiating the BS (Artificial Intelligence) program at GIK Institute. Additionally, along with a couple of other GIK faculty members, he had a significant contribution in making a national benchmark for the BS (Artificial Intelligence) as a member of the Curriculum Review Committee (CRC) of the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) – HEC. He received Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from SNU, which is ranked 36th in the world. His research work received citations from the leading industrial & academic research groups like Google Deep Brain, Samsung, Microsoft, NEC, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and Stanford university.

GIK Institute will fondly remember him for being a benchmark in teaching, for his cutting-edge research in the field of AI and above all for his great services to the Institute as an employee and as a humble yet passionate person. May his soul rest in eternal peace. The Institute will miss him.
